Special technical properties

The Potsdam Biotech Campus in the life sciences field is Located on the Hermannswerder peninsula. It is currently home to 15 young, innovative companies.

Biotech Campus is located on a plot of land of approximately 20,000 m², which contains four buildings dating to around 1900. Originally intended as orphanage and seminar buildings, the structures were used from 1945 to 1991 as a military hospital by the Soviet Army. The buildings were renovated and converted for use as office and laboratory facilities, in a project with a total investment of 24 million euros. The result was today’s 11.400 m² of rentable space, of which laboratory facilities take up 3800 m².

Hermannswerder is home to an S-3 laboratory, a special resource that is the only one of its kind in the state of Brandenburg to date.

The peninsula’s undeveloped, park-like atmosphere provides an excellent environment for scientific work. The Inselhotel and a conference building are located right next to the campus buildings. These can be used both to encourage scientific exchange as well as to promote the image of the biotechnology centre as a centre for research, development and production.
