The capital region Berlin-Brandenburg
As the home of the parliament, government, embassies and top industry associations, Berlin is at the center of political decision-making in Germany. The immediate closeness to Federal ministries, project representatives and venture capital offers optimal conditions for a research region.
The capital region is at the center of the European economic zone and is therefore the gateway between East and West. Due to its specific political, cultural and historical experiences, the Berlin-Brandenburg region will have a key role in the integration of the new markets which have been ermerging since the EU expansion started in 2004. The region is cosmopolitan and offers plenty of room for diversity. It is home to people from 185 nations.
With 174 museums, 150 theaters, eight symphonic orchestras, three opera houses and 265 cinemas, Berlin offers a lively and progressive cultural climate. In the immediate vicinity, 500 palaces and parks invite discovery in Brandenburg. The most famous of these is Potsdam, the capital of the German state of Brandenburg and world cultural heritage site, with its world-famous palace Sanssouci.
